Sault driver accused of being impaired by drugs

Police have charged David Carrie with impaired driving after officers responded on Monday to reports of a Uhaul truck swerving across Highway 17 in Garden River.

A news release issued today by the Anishinabek Police Service states that during a traffic stop, the accused failed an evaluation conducted by a Sault Ste. Marie Police Service drug recognition expert.

On April 4, 2021, officers responded to a call of a Uhaul swerving across Highway 17 in Garden River, Ont. A joint investigation was commenced by the Garden River Anishinabek Police Service, the Batchewana Police Service and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS). With the assistance of the SSMPS drug recognition expert, David Carrie from Sault Ste. Marie was given a drug recognition evaluation, which he performed poorly.

As a result, he was arrested and has been charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 31, 2021.
