An investigation launched earlier this week continues as the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service confirms that a firearm was discharged on Poplar Avenue on Tuesday evening at approximately 7 p.m.

In a news release issued today, Sault Police states that the suspect vehicle was identified and located by Ontario Provincial Police at a Trunk Road business later that evening.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed, police say, but was later located and seized from the 600 block of MacDonald Avenue.

Sault Police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit confirmed to SooToday that this incident is directly related to a video that circulated briefly on social media that shows an officer with what appears to be a service weapon drawn and pointed at a blue vehicle.

"The investigation has determined this is not a random act of violence as the people involved are known to each other. The investigation is ongoing," the Sault Police news release states.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Sault Ste. Marie Police at 705-949-6300, or Crime Stoppers at 705-942-7867 or 1-800-222-8477.
