Police seek assistance solving recent robberies

There has been a string of armed robberies at convenience stores within the city

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in solving a recent string of armed robberies at convenience stores within the city.

These occurrences have not resulted in physical injuries to any involved individuals; however the emotional impact, as well as financial impact on persons and businesses that are victims of these occurrences are equally as concerning. 

We ask that anyone who may have any information to please share that with the Police in order to identify and arrest those responsible.

Below is a summary of recent robberies.

1.  On Aug. 29, 2017 at approximately 7:50 a.m., a lone male entered the Esso gas bar, formerly known as Wardlaw Fuels, located at 207 Wellington St. W. The male brandished a knife and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as being Caucasian, 5'5”, slim build, wearing gray sweatpants with a possible red stripe down the legs, brown shoes, a black jacket with hood, black gloves, black sunglasses, a red handkerchief or bandana covering his face and a red baseball hat with a white logo in the middle.

2.  On Sept. 2, 2017 at approximately 7:25 a.m., a lone male entered the Esso gas bar, formerly known as Wardlaw Fuels, located at 207 Wellington St. W. The male brandished a knife and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. 

The male is described as being Caucasian, 5’6”, slim build, wearing a grey Burton sweater, black jogging pants, blue hat, blue bandana covering his face, and sunglasses.

3.  On Sept. 4, 2017 at approximately 12:40 p.m., a lone male entered the Mac’s Convenience Store, located at 655 Wellington St. W. The male brandished a large knife and fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The male is described as being Caucasian, 5’6”, slim build, wearing a red hoodie with the hood over his head, the hoodie had the word 'Fitch' in capital letters across the chest, grey and black bandana covering his mouth and nose, grey jogging pants, sunglasses, black shoes with a white rim perimeter that appeared to be short-tops, and there was a white emblem over the heel of the shoes.

4.  On Sept. 6, 2017 at approximately 7:20 a.m., a lone male entered the Shell gas station, located at 266 Korah Rd. The male brandished a knife and fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

The male is described as caucasion, 5'5", slim build, wearing grey Nike running shoes, grey jogging pants, a long sleeve black sweater with a red shirt underneath, sunglasses, and a black toque.

5.  On Sept. 6, 2017 at approximately 11:20 p.m., a lone male entered the Mac’s Convenience Store, located at 187 Gore St. The male brandished a knife and fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

The male is described as being Caucasian, 5'5" to 5'7", slim build, wearing a black Bauer jacket with white writing and the number 88 on the right sleeve, brown hoodie, black balaclava, dark baseball cap and white shoes. 

The male arrived on a black and white mountain bike from the west on Cathcart Street and left  down the alley to the west of the store towards the area of Manilla Terrace.
