Police reveal cause of fire and shooting at Goulais Avenue

The investigation revealed one person approached the other in the driveway of a residence and shot them with a firearm twice; the individual returned after to the other residence, where they started a fire and shot themself

Sault Ste. Marie Police have determined the cause of the fire and shooting that occurred on Aug. 5 in the 100 block of Goulais Avenue, resulting in two deaths.

The investigation revealed that one of the people involved in the incident approached the other in the driveway of a residence and shot them with a firearm twice. The victim was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.

After the initial gunshots, the individual returned to the other residence at the scene, where they started a fire and fatally shot themself.

Police did not release the names of the deceased at the request of the next of kin. Police also said the two victims had known each other, and it was an isolated incident. 

The investigation is ongoing.
