Police release image of suspect in East Street assault

Sault police say they have evidence to believe the person pictured in the above image is connected to an assault that took place last month on East Street near the Art Gallery of Algoma.

The assault happened around 1 p.m. on May 12, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

While police did not specify details in today's release, as SooToday reported after the incident an elderly woman in a wheelchair said she was attacked at the same time and location by an unknown woman who spat in her face, jumped on her chest and ripped out the controls of her wheelchair.

SooToday also reported that after the attack, two students from St. Mary’s College helped wheel the victim back to her apartment.
