Police name man accused of walking city streets with handgun, ammunition

Sault Ste. Marie Police have released the name of the male arrested last week on a number of firearms offences after police responded to a report of a male walking around the area of MacDonald Avenue and Pim Street with a handgun the afternoon of Jan.18.

The male was found to be in possession of a concealed loaded 40-calibre handgun and three additional magazines full of ammunition.

The accused was also found to be in possession of two different knives and two canisters of pepper spray.

Officers with Emergency Services Unit, Patrol Services Division and Break and Enter Unit of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 43-year-old Duane Bjornaa of Pim Street for firearms offences.

Bjornaa has been charged with:
    •    One count of possession of a restricted firearm
    •    Two counts of careless use of a firearm or ammunition
    •    Three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon
    •    Six counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
    •    Six counts of carrying a concealed weapon or ammunition
    •    Two counts of failing to deliver a firearm or ammunition to a peace officer
    •    One count of possession of a restricted firearm contrary to licence conditions
