Sault Ste. Marie Police are warning the public of a recent scam involving door-to-door sales.
In a news release issued today, police say officers have recently received complaints of fraudulent activity where a person claiming to work for Reliance Home Comfort as a repair technician comes to their home and requests permission to enter the home and check their hot water tank and furnace.
Once in the home, the fraudster checks the hot water tank and furnace then request personal Reliance Home Comfort client information from the homeowner.
Police have contacted the legal department of Reliance Home Comfort, who have confirmed they never conduct door to door sales, as it's against company policy.

Recently officers have received complaints from the public regarding fraudulent activity involving door to door sales.

Homeowners, please be cautious about who you let into your homes. Remember, you have every right to ask questions about who these people are, who they work for and why they are attending your home.
