The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service's Integrated Municipal Enforcement Team (IMET) performed a follow-up investigation on Wednesday after the team was at a residence on First Avenue earlier this month.

Wednesday's follow-up also included members of Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services, City bylaw enforcement officers and city police.

IMET members attended the scene on Oct. 22 in regards to a gas leak.

The residence was unoccupied at the time.

Power and gas were turned off to the building and IMET members had concerns about the safety of the property, leading to the follow-up on Wednesday.

Officers found the residence to be unoccupied and unsecured. Further investigation led to IMET members finding clothing, property and used drug paraphanalia inside the residence and no power or heat to it.

A lit candle was also found burning on a table.

City bylaw officers and Fire Services noted a number of infractions due to the condition of the residence, which led to it being boarded up and secured.

The homowner/landlord was on scene and made aware of the issues.
