Police find stolen vehicle after responding to break and enter call

Police say the accused was also in possession of suspected fentanyl

Sault Ste. Marie Police say they've arrested someone for theft after an incident that took place yesterday.

In a release issued Wednesday, police say they responded to a call of a break and enter in progress in the early hours Tuesday morning in the 0-100 block of Sharon Crescent. 

The complainant reported a white SUV parked in their driveway and someone attempting to take items.

While they were responding, officers say they witnessed a white SUV leaving the area.

After identifying the vehicle, they determined it had recently been reported stolen.

Officers located the vehicle in the 100 block of Breton Road and a man matching the description from the reported incident on Sharon Crescent and he was arrested. 

A search of the area of arrest found the accused to be in possession of a key to the stolen vehicle, a lock wrapped in a bandana, a can of bear spray and approximately one gram of a substance believed to be fentanyl.

As a result, Cameron McDonald, 32, was arrested and charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, possession a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a controlled substance, trespassing at night and breach of probation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7.
