Police find stolen licence plate and two percocets

On Mar. 20, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 40-year-old Andrew Rowan of Batchewana and 23-year-old Jason Hampleman of Wellington Street East after a routine traffic stop.

At 3 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Cathcart Street and John Street. Officers found that the licence plate on the vehicle had been reported stolen and that the driver, Andrew Rowan was a disqualified driver. 

Mr. Rowan was also found to be bound by an undertaking that stated that he is not to occupy the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle.

The passenger, Mr. Hampleman was found to be bound by a recognizance with conditions that he remain in his residence unless with his surety. Both males were arrested and after searching the vehicle officers located 2 Percocet pills. 

Mr. Rowan has been charged with;

  • One count of driving while disqualified,
  • One count of possession of a controlled substance,
  • One count of possession of stolen property, and;
  • One count of breach of undertaking

Mr. Hampleman has been charged with one count of breach of recognizance and one count possession of a controlled substance. Both of the accused will appear in court on Apr. 24, 2017.
