NEWS RELEASE
SAULT STE. MARIE POLICE SERVICE
*************************
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has received multiple reports of targeted thefts in the city.

Victims are being approached in public areas, generally the parking lot of a business, by individuals who work in unison to distract the victim. One person will begin a conversation with the victim to distract them while another individual will then steal a bag, purse, money, jewelry or other items the victims have with them. The individuals often target senior citizens.

It is believed the individuals are passing through the city and do not reside here.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service reminds the public to be vigilant and be careful if strangers approach them and attempt to distract them. If people in the community have a similar experience, please call 911 for assistance.
