Police charge nine people for violating provincial lockdown order

One charged for organizing Saturday's anti-lockdown rally in Bellevue Park faces a minimum fine of $10,000

Police have charged nine people under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) in relation to a gathering that occurred in Bellevue Park this past Saturday.

In a news release issued today, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that one individual, a resident of Spring Water Township, Ont. near Barrie, is responsible for organizing anti-lockdown rallies in Sault Ste. Marie on May 8 as well as May 15.

If convicted, the accused will face a minimum fine of $10,000.

Eight others charged Saturday under the EMCPA for attending the gathering could face minimum fines of $750 each.

"The investigation into the April 30, May 8 and May 15 illegal gatherings remain under investigation," the release states.
