Police arrest suspect in assault with a golf club

Attack was described as unprovoked and victim suffered severe injuries

On Oct. 12, at around 9:45 a.m., Sault Ste. Marie Police were called to the 0-100 block of Albert Street East in response to an assault with a golf club.

Police found the victim of the attack with severe injuries.

The victim was treated by EMS before being transported to hospital.

A woman matching the description of the assailant was spotted by officers around 1:36 p.m.

40-year-old Loretta Carey was charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The victim and the accused had no connection prior to the attack, which was unprovoked, according to Sault Ste. Marie Police.

Carey has been remanded into custody and will appear in court on Oct. 14.
