Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on McNabb Street near Willow Avenue.

Officers with the Traffic Services Division were called out to assist with the investigation and the pedestrian, a 49-year-old female from Sault Ste. Marie, was taken from the scene with life threatening injuries.

It was determined that the pedestrian was walking westbound in the turning lane on McNabb Street while traffic was flowing in both directions.

The pedestrian then walked into the eastbound lane of traffic and was struck by a vehicle that was travelling eastbound on McNabb Street.

At this time there are no Highway Traffic Act charges being laid as a result of this investigation. Pedestrians are reminded to safely cross city streets by using crosswalks and ensuring that lanes of traffic are clear before crossing the road.
