Man faces number of weapons, drug charges

Officers recognized him in the west end of the city and knew him to have breached his recognizance

On July 23, 2019 officers with the Crime Suppression and Patrol Services Units of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 27-year-old Derrick Derasp of no fixed address for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

On July 23, 2019, police observed the accused in the west end of the city and knew him to have breached his recognizance. When officers approached him he fled on foot. Officers located the accused a short time later and took him into custody.

In the area of his arrest police located approximately 19 grams of cocaine and one gram of crystal methamphetamine. Officers also conducted a search of the accused and located a knife that opens with centrifugal force.

The accused is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, five counts of possession of a prohibited weapon while prohibited and six counts of breach of recognizance.

He was held for bail court.
