Man charged with making counterfeit money

On June 13, 2017, officers with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 37-year-old Derek Roberts of Dufferin Street for the possession and production of counterfeit money.

On June 13, officers executed a search warrant at the residence of the accused.

During the search, officers located an amount of counterfeit Canadian currency in $5, $10, and $20 denominations. Officers also located counterfeit American currency in $50 and $100 denominations.

Officers also located plastic templates used for making counterfeit currency, as well as a colour printer and other instruments used to produce counterfeit currency.

The accused was arrested at the scene and has been charged with one count of possession of counterfeit money, one count of making counterfeit money and one count of possession of instruments for making counterfeit money. He will appear in bail court today.
