Man charged after security cameras stolen from Lake Street residence

33-year-old faces theft, weapons charges

Police have charged Karlin Armstrong following an incident that occurred Saturday afternoon in the Lake Street area.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 33-year-old accused was found in possession of stolen property after officers responded to a break and enter in progress.

Full text of the news release follows:

On Sept. 18, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 33-year-old Karlin Armstrong with possession of property obtained by crime.

Around 12:10 p.m., officers responded to a call of a break and enter in progress in the 800 block of Lake Street. Upon arrival officers determined a man had stolen security cameras from the exterior of the residence, but did not enter the residence.

A short time later, officers located a man matching the description from the incident on Lake Street in the area of Paladin Avenue. Officers identified the accused and he was arrested.

A subsequent search of the accused found him to be in possession of the cameras reported stolen, as well as three knives.

He is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, theft under $5,000, unauthorized possession of a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, and fail to appear or comply with an appearance notice.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 8, 2021.
