Man already in custody faces new theft charges

Police made an arrest on May 20 in relation to a break and enter that occurred on Grandview Avenue on May 9.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service state in a news release that the accused was already in custody the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre on an unrelated matter.

On May 20, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 40-year-old Justin St. Amour with break and enter.

On May 9, 2022, began investigating a break and enter at a residence in the 0-100 block of Grandview Avenue. Various items, including Canadian and American currency, alcohol, identification, and bank cards were reported stolen.

As a result of the investigation the accused was identified as being involved in the incident.

On May 20, 2022, officers attended the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre where the accused is being held on an unrelated matter. He was arrested and charged with:
    •    Break and enter
    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime
    •    Breach of probation – failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
