Late night incident ends in dangerous driving charge

And a drug charge for the passenger
red light speeding

On Feb. 21, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested two males in regards to a dangerous driving incident.

Just after midnight on Feb. 21, officers observed a vehicle travelling Westbound on Wellington Street East. The vehicle proceeded through a red light at Wellington Street East and Gore Street without making any attempt to stop. 

The vehicle then began to travel Westbound at a high rate of speed, traveling through another red light and forcing motorists and pedestrians to quickly maneuver out of the way.

Officers were able to locate and arrest the accused parties.  Upon their arrest it was found that the licence plate on the vehicle had been reported stolen. 

The passenger, 18-year-old Brett Ouimet of Queen Street West was also found to be in possession of a small amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

He was charged with one count of possession of stolen property and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

The driver, 20-year-old Chance Nirkkola of James Street was charged with one count of possession of stolen property, and one count of dangerous driving. Both accused persons will appear in court on Mar. 20, 2017.
