Incident at Bay Street store leads police to man wanted in connection with taxi fraud

On May 19, 2017 officers from the Patrol Service Division with the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested 31-year-old Ryan Boyer of no fixed address for various offences.

It is alleged that on May 18, 2017 the accused attended a store on Bay Street and selected approximately $180 worth of merchandise and then left the store without paying for the items. Store security attempted to apprehend the accused and he began to shove security personnel and attempted to run away.

An off-duty officer was in the area and assisted in bringing the accused into custody. Upon his arrest, it was discovered that the accused was wanted for failing to attend court on May 1, 2017 in relation to a theft that occurred in March of 2017.

It was also found that the accused was wanted in relation to an incident on May 5, 2017. It is alleged that the accused received a ride from a local cab company on May 5. Once he arrived at his destination the accused [allegedly] exited the cab and left without paying the fare of just over $26.

The accused has been charged with one count of fraud in relation to fares, one count of failure to attend court, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of theft under $5,000. He will appear in bail court today.
