Head-on collision between transport, passenger vehicle closes Carmen's Way (Updated)

Late night collision results in heavy damage to both vehicles

12:15 p.m.: SooToday has received the following news release from Sault Ste. Marie Police Services.

MVC Carmen's Way near Conmee Ave

[Early Saturday morning] officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pick up truck and a tractor trailer on Carmen’s Way just North of Conmee Avenue.  

It is known that the pick up truck was travelling north bound on Carmen’s Way and crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic. The truck then collided head on with a tractor trailer that was travelling south bound on Carmen’s Way. 

The pick up truck was destroyed in the collision and the tractor trailer received moderate damage.  

The driver of the pick up truck, a 21 year old male from Sault Ste. Marie, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later charged with one count of driving left of centre under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

At time of writing, Carmen's Way is closed between Conmee Avenue and John Street as police investigate an apparent head-on collision between a transport and a passenger vehicle.

The bottom of the passenger vehicle is visible in the treeline to the west of Carmen's Way, a short distance north of the railroad crossing. Damage to the vehicle is extremely severe.

The transport truck cab is heavily damaged as well and Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services personnel are also on the scene.

It is reported that the collision occurred sometime before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.
