Gas leak closes section of Bay Street

Library and museum remain accessible through East Street

Sault Ste Marie police and fire are on scene at a reported gas leak on the corner of Bay and East Streets at this time.

Bay Street is closed from Spring to Queen.

People in nearby residences have been cautioned to close their windows and Bay Street is expected to be closed about a half-hour. 

People can still access the library and museum via East Street. 

The following is a news release issued by Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services:

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, Sault Ste. Marie fire crews responded to a call of a natural gas leak in the 700 block of Bay Street. The report of the gas the leak came in shortly after 3 p.m.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire crews along with Sault Ste. Marie Police Services were on scene and secured the area. Enbridge Gas was notified and arrived on scene. The leak was contained.

Residents in the area were notified of the incident - no evacuation took place. There were no injuries to report.
