Friday night crash leads to impaired driving charge

A single motor vehicle crash near the intersection of McNabb Street and Great Northern Road Friday evening has resulted in an impaired driving charge for 58-year-old Sydney Roffey.

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that a vehicle struck a light pole at approximately 8 p.m.

Full text of that news release follows:

On Jan. 8, 2021, officers with Patrol Services arrested 58-year-old Sydney Roffey for impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80+).

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to a single vehicle collision near the intersection of McNabb Street and Great Northern Road. Upon arrival officers observed a car which had struck a light pole with no occupants inside.

Officers located the accused in the area and learned he had been driving the vehicle. Officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. He provided a breath sample into an approved device and registered a fail.

He was arrested and charged with impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80+). He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22, 2021.
