Erratic driving leads to impaired charges in Wawa

Police say the accused was swerving into oncoming traffic

A news release issued today by Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reports that a 57-year-old was arrested and charged with impaired driving in Wawa on Friday evening.

The release states that officers observed a pickup truck on Churchill Avenue being driven erratically, swerving into the path of oncoming traffic.

A traffic stop was initiated and officers determined that the driver, Michael Skouris, was impaired by alcohol. He stands charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

His driver's licence was suspended and vehicle impounded for seven days.

Skouris is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 9.
