Drugs, weapons, currency seized during Cunningham Road bust

Two face numerous charges

On Sept. 24, 2019 officers with the Drug Enforcement, Crime Suppression and Emergency Services Units of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 37-year-old Joe Elie and 27-year-old Jade Shawanda of Cunningham Road for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Officers executed a search warrant in the 0-100 block of Cunningham Road at approximately 12 a.m. on Tuesday. Inside the residence officers located varying amounts of [suspected] fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy.

Police also located brass knuckles, four prohibited knives, dog spray, approximately $2,100 in Canadian currency and two stolen bicycles.

The two accused were charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of stolen property. Mr. Elie was also charged with six counts of breach of recognizance.

They were held for bail court.
