Drugs, sawed-off shotgun seized during traffic stop

On Aug. 1, 2018 officers with The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Drug Unit, Crime Suppression Unit and Break and Enter Unit arrested 49-year-old Line Duguay of Allen’s Side Road and 29-year-old Jayme McEwan of Morin Street for drug and firearm offences.

At about 4 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on St. Georges Avenue at North Street. Line Duguay was identified as the driver of the vehicle and Mr. McEwan was a passenger in the front seat. During the traffic stop officers located a small amount of cocaine and methamphetamine, and a sawed off shotgun in the vehicle. The serial number on the firearm had been tampered with, making it illegible.

Both individuals were taken into custody. They have been charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance,
  • Careless storage of a firearm,
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and;
  • Tampering with the serial number on a firearm

They will appear in court on Sept. 10, 2018.
