Driving without headlights leads to impaired charge

On Dec. 3, 2017 offices with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 53-year-old Trudy Vaittinen of Pine Street for an impaired driving related offence.

Just after 1 a.m., officers observed the accused operating a motor vehicle on Allard Street with no headlights on. Officers initiated a traffic stop and soon after demanded that the accused provide a sample of her breath into a roadside screening device. The device registered a fail and the accused was taken into custody. 

The accused has been charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level that was over the legal limit. She will appear in court on Jan. 8, 2018.
