Driver's window smashed. Assault charges follow

On June 15, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 34-year-old male in relation to a domestic violence incident.

On June 7, 2017 the victim, a 27-year-old female was travelling in her vehicle. The accused, her ex-boyfriend is alleged to have cut the victim off and forced her off of the road. 

The accused approached the victim’s vehicle and (allegedly) broke the driver’s side window out of the vehicle. He then broke the door handle, covered the victim’s mouth, choked her and threatened to kill her.

Further, on June 14, 2017 the accused engaged in a verbal argument with the victim at her place of work. The argument escalated and the accused punched the victim in the arm. 

At the time of the (alleged) offences, the accused was bound by a recognizance with conditions that he not communicate with the victim or go to her place of work, residence, or school.

The accused was located and arrested by police on June 15, 2017.  He has been charged with:

  • two counts of assault,
  • three counts of breach of recognizance,
  • one count of mischief,
  • one count of dangerous driving, and;
  • one count of threatening.

He will appear in bail court today.
