On March 19, 2019, officers with the Patrol Services division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 32-year-old Peter Austin of North Street for blood alcohol over the legal limit.

In the early morning hours of March 19, 2019, officers observed a vehicle leaving an establishment on Wellington Street West. A traffic stop was conducted and officers spoke with the lone occupant and noted a smell of alcohol.

Police asked the driver to exit the vehicle, at that time they noticed his steps were slow, his speech was slightly slurred and he had bloodshot eyes.

At this time officers developed grounds to believe the accused’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and a roadside breath sample was provided. It registered a fail and he was taken into custody.

He is charged with one count of blood alcohol over 80 and one count of impaired. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 29, 2019.
