Domestic violence investigation leads to multiple charges

The accused allegedly threatened to kill the victim

On Nov. 30, 2017, officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 53-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie as a result of a domestic violence investigation.

It is alleged that the accused engaged in a verbal argument with his girlfriend. The argument escalated and the accused assaulted the victim by poking her in the chest with a fork and then grabbed her by the throat. During the assault, the accused (allegedly) threatened to kill the victim. 

Police attended and the accused was taken into custody. Upon his arrest, officers located a firearm and ammunition that were not properly stored in the residence of the accused. At the time the accused did not possess a valid firearms license.   

The accused has been charged with:

  • One count of assault,
  • One count of assault with a weapon,
  • One count of uttering threats,
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and;
  • One count of unsafe storage of a firearm.

He was held for bail court.
