Domestic dispute leads to arson charges

On Sept. 27, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 38-year-old male as a result of a domestic violence incident.

It is alleged that on Sept. 27, the accused engaged in a verbal argument with his girlfriend. The argument escalated and the accused began to damage pieces property belonging to the victim. (It is alleged) the accused then set fire to various pieces of the victim’s property in a bathtub and broke the windshield of the victim’s vehicle before leaving the residence.

The accused was located by officers a short time later and taken into custody. He has been charged with:

  • two counts of mischief under $5,000,
  • one count of arson - disregard for human life,
  • one count of possession of incendiary material,
  • one count of arson - damage to property, and;
  • one count of breach of probation

He will appear in bail court today.
