Dog park incident leads to assault charge

Victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries, police say

An altercation at the Strathclair Dog Park has resulted in the arrest of 51-year-old Leslie Kelly for assault causing bodily harm, states a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Officers responded to the incident on Saturday.

Full text of the release follows:

On Jan. 22, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 51-year-old Leslie Kelly with assault causing bodily harm.

The victim attended the Strathclair Dog Park on Second Line East, when his dog and another dog got into an altercation. The victim pushed the other dog away, and at this time the accused struck the victim in the face, knocking the victim to the ground. Police were called and the accused left the area.

EMS attended and the victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation identified the accused, and he was located and arrested on Jan. 22, 2022.

He is charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 21, 2022.
