A driver faces impaired driving related charges after officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on St. Georges Avenue early this morning.

Responding officers attempted to obtain a breath sample from 33-year-old Christopher Brown at the scene, but he refused, says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Full text of the release follows:

On Jan. 31, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 33-year-old Christopher Brown with operation while impaired.

Around 2 a.m., officers responded to a single vehicle collision on St. Georges Avenue. Upon arrival, officers saw a vehicle facing northbound in the westbound lane with damage to the front of the vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver, later identified as the accused, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

The accused was arrested. Officers attempted to get the accused to provide a breath sample into an approved device, but the accused did not provide a sample.

The accused is charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug
    •    Refusal to comply with a demand

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on March 27, 2023.
