Charges laid in relation to two robbery investigations

On July 25, 2017, officers with the Break and Enter Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 18-year-old Derby Turner of Knox Avenue in relation to two robbery investigations.

It is alleged that on July 24, 2017, the accused allegedly attended a convenience store in the 600 block of Wellington Street West wearing a mask and demanded cash from the clerk. 

The accused took an assortment of lotto tickets and fled the store.

Later, on July 25, 2017, (it is alleged) the accused attended a Gas Station in the 200 block of Wellington Street West. 

The accused was using a hooded sweater to cover his face and was (allegedly) brandishing a knife while demanding cash. The accused obtained an amount of cash from the clerk and fled the area.

Police were able to identify the accused and he was arrested on July 25. He has been charged with;

  • two counts of robbery,
  • two counts of wearing a disguise; and,
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

He was held for bail court.
