Cab ride leads to charges for two men

Two men face a charge of obtaining transportation by fraud

On Nov. 27, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 45-year-old Craig Witty of Albert Street East and 33-year-old Emmanuel Mugabo of Cathcart Street for transportation fraud.

It is alleged that both males took a ride with a local taxi company on Nov. 27 and exited the cab without paying for the fare. Police were in the area and the driver was able to speak with officers and explain what had happened. Officers were able to quickly locate both males walking away from the area and they were placed in custody.

Both males have been charged with one count of obtaining transportation by fraud. They will appear in court on Jan. 8, 2018.
