A break and enter, an assault with a Sharpie and outstanding warrants

One man is arrested after utility trailers are broken into and a traction skidder stolen; another after an attack on a library employee; and, a woman is arrested for refusing to attend court to face assault charges

Break and enter

At 9:25 a.m. on Dec. 03, city police arrested a 43-year-old male. City police had received a call from Essar Steel Algoma security regarding two suspicious males on their property and properties adjacent to Essar Steel Algoma. Police began attempts to locate the males with updates from witnesses in the plant. One male was eventually apprehended near Sherbourne Street. An investigation discovered that the accused (is alleged to) have broken into two utility trailers. A traction skidder was stolen and located a short distance away from where it was stolen. The accused is facing four counts of break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and possession of break in tools. He will be appearing in WASH bail court on Dec. 4, 2016.

Assault with a Sharpie

At 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 03, city police arrested a 19-year-old male. It’s alleged that he attended at the library on East Street and, when he was asked to leave, he refused. He continued to argue with staff and, when staff attempted to call police, he grabbed the phone and started attacking the staff. The male then attacked the staff member with a Sharpie. Patrons at the library intervened, he left and was apprehended a short time later. The male is facing charges of assault with a weapon and threatening death. He will be appearing in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) bail court on Dec. 4, 2016. Outstanding warrants

At 10:15 p.m. on Dec. 03, city police arrested an 18-year-old female on outstanding warrants. Earlier in the evening the Ontario Provincial Police came across the female in the Echo Bay area and had occasion to check her. It was discovered that she was wanted on three warrants. It’s alleged that the accused failed to show up for court on a domestic related assault. Further she failed to show up for a bail release program. The accused has been charged with failing to appear in court, breach of an undertaking and further on a court issued warrant on charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. She will be appearing in WASH bail court on Dec. 4, 2016.
