SAULT STE. MARIE POLICE SERVICE

Just after 4 a.m. today, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Firefighters with Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a call for service regarding a potential fire in a single unit on the second floor of 23 Terry Fox Place.
Upon arrival, it was found that the fire was contained to the unit and did not spread to any other units. All occupants of the second floor were temporarily evacuated so that the smoke could be ventilated from the building.
Once the unit was cleared, a 60-year-old male was found deceased inside. Officers with the Investigation Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are continuing this investigation along with officials from the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office. The cause of death and the source of the fire have not yet been determined and the investigation is continuing.
