32-year-old charged with pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon

Police have charged Cameron McDonald with numerous firearm-related offences following an incident that occurred on Albert Street yesterday afternoon.

In a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, it is alleged that the 32-year-old accused pointed a firearm at a victim while at a residence located in the 300 block of Albert Street West.

McDonald was located and arrested a short time later.

On May 2, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 32-year-old Cameron McDonald with multiple weapon offences.

It’s alleged around 3:47 p.m., the accused attended a residence in the 300 block of Albert Street West and pointed a firearm at a victim then left the area. The accused and the victim are known to each other.

Officers located the accused around 4:05 p.m. in the 200 block of Gloucester Street and he was arrested.

Later on May 2, 2021, officers with Investigation Services executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Gloucester Street.

During the search, officers located a replica firearm, a round of .22 calibre ammunition, a 12 gauge shotgun shell, and a mountain bike which had been reported stolen.

He is charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of breach of recognizance, and breach of probation.

He was held for bail court.
