24-year-old accused of threatening victims with hatchet

Accused faces robbery, assault charges as a result

Police have charged Jake Nicholson following an incident that occurred on Elmwood Avenue on Saturday morning.

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service alleges that the 24-year-old accused threatened victims with a hatchet after he was observed taking wire from their backyard.

Full text of the news release follows:

On June 19, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 24-year-old Jake Nicholson with robbery.

It’s alleged around 8:33 a.m., victims observed the accused stealing wire from their backyard in the 200 block of Elmwood Avenue. When they confronted him, he threatened them with a hatchet and fled the area.

Officers located the accused around 9:04 a.m. and he was arrested. At the time of arrest the accused was in possession of an e-bike that was reported stolen on June 18, 2021.

He is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of recognizance.

He was held for bail court.
