20-year-old charged with stealing charity donation pot

On Dec. 13, 2018, officers with the Break and Enter Unit of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20-year-old Jacques Roy of Boston Avenue for theft.

It is alleged that on Nov. 29, 2018, the accused stole an amount of cash and a donation pot that was positioned at a business in the 200 block of Bay Street. On Dec. 13, a citizen recognized the accused and contacted police.

Officers attended the area and observed the accused inside a business in the 100 block of Churchill Boulevard. Officers observed the accused take a few items and conceal them on his person while inside the store. The accused left the store and was placed in custody.

He has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, one count possession of stolen property and two counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on Jan. 14, 2019.
