15-year-old accused of hitting woman with hammer

On Nov. 23, 2018, officers with the Patrol Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 15-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie for assault with a weapon.

It is alleged that just before 11 a.m, the accused assaulted a female that was walking in the 100 block of Cooper Street. 

The accused approached the female, who is not known to him, and struck her with a hammer causing non-life threatening injuries. The accused was confronted by a motorist that was passing by and he then left the scene.

Police were contacted, and a short time later the accused was taken into custody. He has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon. He will appear in court on Jan. 8, 2019.
