Seniors' groups to host all-candidate meeting

A Meet the Candidates for MP (Sault Ste. Marie) event is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Seniors’ Drop-in Centre on Bay Street in Sault Ste. Marie. The focus of the meeting will be on issues of concern to seniors, including a national seniors’ strategy, pharmacare, retirement income security and climate change. 

The three groups hosting the event are as follows: Algoma Branch of the National Association of Federal Retirees (NAFR), District 3 Algoma of the Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO) and Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma Seniors Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). 

All candidates for MP will be present. The event will begin with each candidate having the opportunity to have an opening statement on their platforms, followed by a question period. The formal part of the event will be followed by a brief time to engage in conversation with the candidates. Refreshments will be served.

The general public is invited to attend in order to make an informed vote on Monday, Oct. 21.

The Retired Teachers of Ontario- District 3 Algoma represents over 1100 members in Algoma. Together the three seniors’ groups represent more than 2000 voters in Algoma.
