Ojibway Woodland artist Thomas Sinclair will be one of the artists showcasing their works during Art X Project, an art exhibition featuring Indigenous artists, musicians and storytellers. The free event takes place Nov. 11-12.

An upcoming art exhibition in downtown Sault Ste. Marie will showcase the works of local Indigenous artists, musicians and storytellers.

The Art X Project takes place Nov. 11-12 and will feature artists Amber Waboose, Adrienne Beaupre, Christina Bekintis, Dakota Cress and Thomas Sinclair during the exhibition at Rolling Pictures (498 Queen Street East). The show will be curated by Annie King.

A special showing of the Art X Project will also be held Nov. 26 during the opening night of the Sault Film Festival

“We have a lot happening in this our most ambitious show to date,” said Rolling Pictures Community Relations Director Robert Peace in a recent news release. “We have brought together art, music, storytelling and photography all into one show to celebrate the Indigenous culture in the Sault and surrounding area.”

Rolling Pictures and Garden River First Nation will also launch a new coffee table book, From the Eagle's Eye: A perspective of Ketegaunseebee, during the two-day exhibition. Copies of the book will be available for sale during the event.

“The Creator has truly blessed the people of Garden River with the land that we live on,” said Garden River First Nation Chief Andy Rickard. "Through the words of our elders and the images in these pages, I hope we may appreciate the wonderful gift the Creator has entrusted us.”

The Art X Project is the result of a partnership between Rolling Pictures, the Downtown Association, The City of Sault Ste. Marie and Future SSM.

“We are very excited to continue to support and grow the Art X Project," said Todd Fleet, arts & culture coordinator for the City of Sault Ste. Marie. "The project is a tremendous platform for helping local artists build their practices through networking, portfolio building, exhibition development, promotion as well as sales and commissions.”

This Art X we are celebrating our Indigenous heritage with a culturally rich and diverse program and we look forward to continuing to grow these opportunities in the community.”

Tickets to the free event can be picked up online or by calling (647) 778-6696. Donations will also be accepted at the door.
