CANADA: Soon you'll be able to zip line from Ontario to Quebec

The 1,400-foot long line is expected to open to the public next summer in Ottawa

OTTAWA - Residents and visitors to Canada’s capital will soon be able to launch themselves across the Ottawa River, when Interzip Rogers, the world’s first interprovincial zip line, opens.

The nearly 1,400 foot-long line, which opens in the summer of 2020 at the Zibi site, will soar 120 feet above the Ottawa River, offering riders 360 degree views of downtown Gatineau, the Chaudière Falls and the Parliament buildings.

Zibi believes this addition to the capital’s skyline is sure to become one of the region’s top tourism destinations. More than 30,000 people are expected to cross the parallel zip lines on an annual basis, offering a positive economic impact for both cities.

"It’s a wonderful symbol of Ottawa and Gatineau working closely on many projects," said City of Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson. "I’m very pleased that we could help deliver on this great initiative that will benefit our tourism industry and its members."

"Finding a better place for this attraction would have been hard," added Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, Mayor, City of Gatineau. "The site is fantastic and has it all: the river, both cities and the Parliament Hill. It’s bold and ambitious, just like the Zibi project. On many levels, it is a strong symbol of the renewed relationship between Gatineau and Ottawa over the past few years."

Skyline Ziplines LTD, a world leader in the building and operation of zip lines, has been retained to build Interzip Rogers. Skyline’s technology, found in 22 countries around the world, has set industry standards in maximizing the safety of participants. Work on the zip line started last summer and is anticipated to finish in the spring of 2020.

Interzip Rogers was officially announced at a news conference Thursday morning by Orkestra, the local advertising firm behind the project. Interzip Rogers is funded by Rogers, its title sponsor, the City of Ottawa, la Ville de Gatineau, Ottawa Tourism, and the Quebec Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with Tourisme Outaouais, through the Agreement on Regional Tourism Partnerships.
