Police in Vaughn say a man and a woman charged with impaired driving were both in the driver's seat of a blue Honda Civic and both were driving when it left the roadway and crashed into a pole.

Officers who responded to 9-1-1 calls at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning arrived at an intersection where they found a man and a woman standing beside the blue Honda, which had damage to its front end. Police say there were two open cans of beer on the road between the vehicle "and a trail of debris leading to a pole that had been knocked down."

York Regional Police say that following the collision the car had been driven further down the road.

The pair failed a breath test, police say.

A 31-year-old man from Markham and a woman, 26, from Newmarket, face charges of impaired operation of a motorvehicle, having a blood/alcohol concentration 'over 80' and dangerous driving.
