GUELPH — The Longos grocery store on Clair Road has started checking the temperatures of customers and staff as they enter the store.
Staff will also be wearing masks and those entering the store will be asked a series of questions related to how they're feeling and if they have travelled, in an attempt to increase the safety level for all both, says a letter sent out to customers.
"Starting Friday, April 17th, we will be piloting a store entry Wellness Screening program for both Team Members and Guests as a further step to help prevent the spread of COVID-19," said the notice signed by company president and CEO Anthony Longo.
"The Wellness Screening will be completed by a security guard prior to entering the store and will consist of questions and a temperature check using an infrared thermometer that allows us to maintain social distancing."
On March 29 Longos announced that one of its employees at its Guelph location had tested positive for COVID-19.
The questions required to be answered as part of the Wellness Screening are:
- Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath?
- Have you travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?
- Has someone you are in close contact with tested positive for COVID-19?
- Have you been told to self-isolate by Public Health or a medical professional?
"Team Members and Guests who answer yes to any of the above questions or who have an elevated temperature reading will not be permitted in the store that day.
"Additionally, all Team Members have now been provided face coverings. Guests are also asked to wear their own mask or face covering while in the store.
"We understand that these are significant changes to your shopping experience and we thank you for your support and patience as we work together to keep everyone safe."
