Federal government reaches agreement to supplement wages for essential workers; provinces, territories to determine which workers eligible

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government has reached an agreement with provinces and territories to top up wages for essential workers. 

Details of the agreement are being finalized. 

Trudeau says it will be up to the provinces and territories to determine which essential workers will be eligible for the wage top-up. 

The prime minister also used his daily address to thank members of the Canadian Armed Forces that have been deployed to assist nurses and frontline workers in long-term care homes in Quebec and Ontario. 

More than 670 military members have been deployed to 20 long-term care homes in Quebec, with an additional 350 members for support. 

Trudeau says 265 military members have been deployed to five long-term care homes in Ontario.
