Health Sciences North reports intestinal virus outbreak

Health Sciences North has informed the public through its Facebook page, that an enteric outbreak is currently affecting the 8th floor of Ramsey Lake Health Centre's North Tower. 

Symptoms of this enteric -- meaning related to or occurring within the intestines -- outbreak are vomiting and/or diarrhea. 

Health Sciences North said it has taken a number of measures to deal with the outbreak, including isolation precautions, strict hand hygiene, heightened infection prevention and control surveillance; laboratory testing, and enhanced environment cleaning and disinfection. 

Additional measures to contain the virus may be introduced should the situation evolve.

In light of this outbreak, visitors are asked to check in with the nursing station upon arrival to the 8th floor and to follow all infection control protocols, up to and including hand hygiene and the use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
