The Wellington Square Mall could potentially undergo a facelift in the future, which could see a portion of the building converted into a strip mall.

“They are negotiating, and there’s supposed to be changes,” said mall manager Terry Slewidge.

There has also been talk at the ownership level to construct a 24,000 foot anchor store and a standalone building on the property which would accommodate another business.

“The front of the mall and the common area would come out,” said Slewidge. “The back of the mall would be the front of the all the new stores, and then you have your anchor store on one end, and Food Basics at the other.”

Slewidge tells SooToday that talks are in the preliminary stages, and that plans to overhaul the Wellington Square Mall have yet to be finalized.

“That’s what the talk is - but until anything happens, we don’t know,” Slewidge said.

The Wellington Square Mall opened its doors to the public 32 years ago.
