Background

Pennies From Heaven is a tradition at St. Mary’s College.

Since 1992 students have been instrumental in organizing and executing this great fundraising campaign.

The proceeds have benefited many people over the years and we expect to help many more this year.

Pennies From Heaven, also known as “Pennies” around the school, runs throughout Advent.

Students orchestrate different events during the campaign which culminates in a presentation of the proceeds to local charities.

We hope the Events List being sent with this advisory will help you to help us make this year’s Pennies From Heaven Campaign the best ever.

Pennies From Heaven 2009 events

CAMPAIGN KICKOFF

The advent season will kick off with a liturgical dance/drama illustrating the true meaning of Christmas, and the power of the penny.

This “kickoff” presentation is a dynamic introduction to Pennies from Heaven.

PASTA DINNER

Come for dinner! Pasta, meatballs, salad and dessert, along with draws and door prizes make this one of the most popular events of the Pennies campaign.

There will be craft tables for the little ones so parents can relax and enjoy dessert and coffee.

Take out is available.

PENNY COLLECTION

Collecting pennies in coffee cans is the cornerstone of the Pennies From Heaven campaign.

Our cans will be placed throughout the community and the school.

Please give generously if you see one of these collection cans.

We depend on community partners to help us in this endeavor and are deeply appreciative of all those who donate their change, and allow us space on their counters for the cans.

HOCKEY GAME

The St. Mary’s Knights take on the St. Basil Saints on Thursday afternoon.

Students will be released from both schools at 1:35 p.m. in order to attend the hockey game at the Essar Centre.

This is an opportunity to get out and enjoy “the good ole hockey game” while supporting a great cause!

CHEQUE PRESENTATIONS

The grand finale of Pennies from Heaven is the presentation of the cheques.

After a month of collecting, counting and rolling pennies, we are able to enjoy the fruits of our labour.

Representatives of local charities are invited to receive donations on behalf of their organizations.

This will take place in the school auditorium on the morning of December 18. Merry Christmas!
